I found myself lost in this book from the first chapter. Hoyt is highly skilled at sharing detailed biological and ecological information on whales and the marine environment by weaving it into a compelling narrative. This is one of those books that I normally reserve for beach reading because the writing is so vivid. Reading on the beach makes it extra special! But once I started reading on the sofa, I couldn't stop. It reminds me of how easy it is to get caught up in a BBC nature documentary narrated by David Attenborough. It's fascinating, compelling, and wondrous all at the same time.Seasons of the Whale is a must read for any whale/cetacean/ocean lover for it's entertainment value alone. But this book is also highly informative and highly accessible for readers of all ages.
The stories of the whales in this book have been evolving for decades, and its exciting to learn what happens next in this expanded edition. I'm inspired to do more to protect whales and their home. You will be too. Highly recommended. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!
